Grace is a Mother of 3 children, married and living in the Hills District of Sydney. She is a qualified counsellor, volunteers her time to a help line both taking calls and training new recruits, she now fulfills her duties as a Professional Advisor to the volunteer group since Summer fell ill, in reality with all the ongoing medical intervention required, Grace has been unable to work outside the home. Grace has decided to keep her family anonymous as toВ protect Summer’s future career prospects and to eliminate the risk of cyber bullying. В Grace hosts an Australian support group on Facebook for carers and parents of children with an Eating Disorder. Her membership to high profile advocacy and activism groups across the world isВ in keepingВ with her mission to help others, educate, bring awareness and fight against stereotypical propaganda in advertising and health insurance companies who do not cover mental health illnesses. Grace’s mission is to facilitate parent/carer groups in Sydney to bring support and information to families struggling to understand, cope and beat the monster that has taken their son or daughter away from them.
Grace and Summer have begun writing the journey of the second year fighting anorexia. It continues the family story, as Grace has learnt and researched, she has documented and is compelled to share all that she has learnt. A no nonsense approach to writing facts and suggestions that medical journals,
Doctors, psychiatrists, nutritionists and so on do not and wouldn’tВ understandВ what it is like to be at ground zero. В A Mother knows best approach and collectively with sound knowledge, life experience she hopes to make a difference. There is no structured holistic help available in Australia for eating disorders – there is no magic pill or cure – it is a very lonely and isolating disease that needs spotlight, services and funding for research.
